What makes us special?

We have an amazingly loving, knowledgeable staff that cares for every guest as if the guest were their own. We are a small mom and pop hotel specializing in individual care for each guest.

Does the staff have any special animal care training or qualifications?

Absolutely, the staff have gone through training in Pet CPR and First Aid. Plus, they all have 2+ minimum years of experience taking care of dogs and cats.

What does it cost for my dog/cat to vacation at APH?

We charge by the calendar day (not per night) and our vacation rates are set by weight for dogs.

Do you have day care?

Yes. Our day care guests receive the exact same wonderful experience and attention as our vacation guests.

Are there any extra charges?

No. We have no extra charges. Everything extra we do for our guests is included in the vacation rate, including a bath for our canines.

What vaccines are required?

We require the following vaccinations for our pooches:

  • Rabies (within the last 1-3 years)
  • DHLPP (within the last 1-3 years)
  • Bordetella (within the last year)

We require the following vaccination for our kitties:

  • FVRCP (within the last 1-3 years)

How much does it cost to have my dog trained?

Our training programs are designed to meet the desires and needs for each owner and dog. All of our programs begin with our guaranteed Basic Obedience Training. Please call us so we may discuss what program and corresponding price works for you and your dog. 310-479-4400.

What method of training is used?

All training is done by Ira, the owner and developer of the programs. Ira uses only love, praise and affection as his training approach.

What is the training guarantee?

The Basic Obedience Training is guaranteed for as long as you have your dog. Also, anytime your dog vacations with us, the training is refreshed at no extra charge!

How long does the training take?

We have two, four and six week training programs.

Can you work on housebreaking and problem solving while my dog is being trained?

Yes! We can work on housebreaking and any problems your dog might be having. When you pick up your dog, we will set up a housebreaking program for you to continue to follow and go over the problem solving techniques.

What age is best to have my dog trained?

Any age dog can be trained. Of course, beginning the training as early as possible is always the best. Training may begin with a puppy as young as ten weeks.  We have trained dogs as old as 14 years.

Does my dog stay at American Pet Hotel while training?

Yes. All of our training programs are done at our Hotel. While your dog is being trained, your dog will enjoy all the vacation amenities we provide as well. Plus, you may visit your doggy anytime during our office hours while your                         dog is being trained.

You may also drop off and pick up your dog daily for training.

What are the accommodations like?

Doggy guests have large individual private runs approximately 5’x8’ with foam mats and comfy beds to sleep on at night. Fresh water constantly. Geriatric dogs or dogs with movement issues have platform beds to make getting up easier.

We do not mingle any guests.

Kitty guests have private individual condos with resting shelves, plush bedding, liter box, and fresh water. We do not mingle any guests.

Can I check on my dog/cat why they vacation at APH?

Absolutely and we will send you pictures/videos of your pet while they vacation with us!

What is the minimum/maximum age for a guest to vacation?

Minimum age requirements depend on the vaccines received.

Doggy guests must have received a minimum of 2 shots of DHLPP and 1 shot of Bordetella.

Kitty guests must have received the FVRCP.

Because of the individual care and private quarters, we have no maximum age for any guest.

Does my dog/cat have to be spayed/neutered to stay at APH?

No. Because we do not mingle any guests and all guests have private accommodations, spaying and neutering is not necessary. However, we highly recommend spay/neutering all pets for their health.

I have more than one dog/cat can they stay together?

Yes.

Doggies from the same family may stay together. We are happy to separate them at meal times in order to insure each doggy gets his appropriate food and serving size.

Kitties from the same family may stay together. We are happy to separate them at meal times in order to insure each kitty gets the appropriate amount of food.

Do you have discounts for multiple pets?

No. We don’t offer multiple guest discounts because of the type of care we provide in spending so much time with each individual guest.

Do you accept all breeds of dogs?

We accept all breeds of dogs and cats.

Do you mingle dogs?

No. We never mingle dogs unless they are from the same family and you wish them to be together.

Do you walk dogs?

Absolutely. All of our doggy guests have individual walks, outside 5-6 times a day.

Where does my dog go to the bathroom?

The dogs go to the bathroom outside on their walks. Plus, we have an indoor area for them to relieve themselves as well.

What food do you feed?

We feed an All-Natural kibble and canned food. Plus we offer Gluten Free and Grain Free foods.

Can I bring my own food?

Yes, and there is no extra charge for us to feed any special diet!

Can you give medications?

Yes. We can give any medication needed.

Do you charge for medications?

No, there is no extra charge for medications, other than injections.

Can I bring my dog/cat/s own bed, toys, blanket?

You may bring anything you feel your pet will enjoy. Please realize items can become dirty or be misplaced.

What if my dog/cat needs to see a veterinarian?

If your pet needs to see a veterinarian, we will attempt to notify you immediately. We will take the guest to his vet if possible, or the vet on call.

Do you monitor weight of dogs/cats during their vacation?

Yes.

We weigh every doggy guest upon arrival and do our version of a medical check a number of times during the vacation stay and monitor food intake and bowel movements

What if there is weight loss?

If there is a weight loss, we investigate why! Most pets will maintain their weight. Some may lose a pound or two because of the amount of activity they have with us. Some may gain a pound or two because they love our food and treats!

Of course, we have staff with our guests 24/7 and maintain appropriate staffing levels at all times.

Do you offer any specials or packages?

We offer Pre-Pay packages:

  • If you pay in advance $1,000 – you will receive a free $150 towards a vacation stay.
  • If you pay in advance $2,000 – you will receive a free $400 towards a vacation stay.

Of course, what is not used ALWAYS carries forward to future stays.

What forms of payment do you take?

We take Credit Cards and Cash.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

There is no penalty for canceling a reservation.

During peak season and holiday times, we do require a non-refundable deposit for first time guests.
